THE HELICOPTER THAT CRASHED WAS THE FIRST AMONG THE SEVEN HELICOPTERS PROCURED BY THE PNP UNDER ITS MODERNIZATION PROGRAM.

THE REPORT NOTED THAT THE HELICOPTER DID NOT HAVE A COCKPIT VOICE RECORDER OR FLIGHT DATA RECORDER, BUT THEY WERE EXAMINING A FLIGHT COMPUTER AND A NUMBER OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES RECOVERED FROM THE WRECKAGE. THE NTSB HAS ALSO PREVIOUSLY RECOMMENDED THOSE FOR SUCH CHOPPERS, FOLLOWING CRASHES.
THAT REPORT SAYS THAT THE HELICOPTER』S DESCENT INCREASED TO OVER 4,000 FEET PER MINUTE AND HIT THE GROUND AT JUST OVER 184 MILES PER HOUR. THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD RELEASED AN UPDATED REPORT ON FRIDAY, FEB. 7 GIVING DETAILS OF THE WRECKAGE OF THE HELICOPTER CRASH WHERE KOBE BRYANT AND EIGHT OTHERS DIED ON JAN. 26. OFFICIALS SAID THE CHOPPER, WHICH WAS FLYING USING ONLY VISUAL READINGS, SLAMMED INTO A HILLSIDE AMID EXTREMELY FOGGY CONDITIONS. A TIMES DATA ANALYSIS TRACKED THE FINAL MOMENTS OF THE FLIGHT, FINDING THE HELICOPTER FLEW DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO ANOTHER HILLSIDE JUST BEFORE CRASHING.

"THESE ARE WHAT WE CALL SURVIVABLE EVENTS. THESE ARE JUST MINOR IMPACTS, ALMOST RELATED TO A CAR CRASH, LIKE A FENDER BENDER. SO THOSE ARE SURVIVABLE EVENTS. THERE SHOULD NOT BE A FIRE. HELICOPTERS CRASH AND THEY CRASH LITERALLY EVERY DAY. THEY NEED TO BE CRASHWORTHY, SO IF THERE IS A SURVIVABLE EVENT, IT』S A SURVIVABLE CRASH. IT COULD EVEN BE ON THE GROUND, 5 FEET OFF THE GROUND OR TO 10 FEET OFF THE GROUND. YOU WOULD NOT EXPECT TO DIE FROM SOMETHING LIKE THAT OR EVEN HAVE SERIOUS INJURY," WOOD EXPLAINS.
VARIOUS PROVISIONS IN THE COUNTRY’S AVIATION SYSTEM WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CRASH RATHER THAN THE PILOT WHO OPERATED THE HELICOPTER, THE INVESTIGATION CONCLUDES. THE PROBE HAS FOUND THAT THE LOAD THAT THE CHOPPER WAS CARRYING WAS BIGGER THAN ALLOWED TO THAT TYPE OF THE CHOPPER AT THE ALTITUDE OF THE PLACE. LIKEWISE, THE HELICOPTER HAD TAKEN OFF THE HELIPAD IN THE FIRST MINUTE AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE.
